Violinist Esther Hwang
Winner of the VPO’s Concerto Celebration Competition in February 2011, Esther Huang returns to perform the Brahms Violin Concerto.
Esther Hwang, a Grade 11 SPARTS student in Magee Secondary, began her violin studies at age three in Korea and immigrated to Canada at age five. Her current teachers are Gerald Stanick and Lawrie Hill. Since the age of nine, Ms. Hwang has performed as a soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra on many occasions, with conductors Ken Hsieh, Evan Mitchell, and Bramwell Tovey. She was invited to perform for theVancouver Recital Society’s Young Masters’ Project and as a special guest for the VRS co-presentation with the Vancouver 2010 Cultural Olympiad. She was the winner in her age category and was chosen to perform in the Gala with the CMC Orchestra in 2010. Esther attended Morningside Music Bridge in Calgary as a full tuition scholarship recipient in summer of 2010.
In May 2011, Esther participated as the youngest, among the six chosen finalists, in the Shean Strings Competition showcasing talented young musicians.
