Conductor Lars Kaario
Lars Kaario is Director of Choral Studies in the Diploma in Music Program at Capilano University. He directs Capilano University Singers, the Capilano University Festival Chorus, Cecilia Ensemble Women’s Choir and teaches voice. He is founder and director of the acclaimed professional chamber choir Laudate Singers, broadcast for CBC Radio, performed as resident choir for Kathaumixw and has also performed for Festival Vancouver. Other ensembles he has directed include Pacific Baroque Orchestra, CBC Orchestra, West Coast Symphony, West Coast Summer Music Festival Orchestra and Chorus, Vancouver Cantata Singers, Greater Vancouver Operatic Society, and Theatre Under the Stars. Mr. Kaario has been a director of music at several churches in the Lower Mainland. He has performed leading roles in opera, light opera and music theatre, and has appeared regularly in many recitals and concerts. In oratorio, he has been tenor soloist in such works as Bach’s B Minor Mass, Beethoven’s Mass in C Major, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater, Handel’s Messiah, Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Mozart’s Requiem with many of B.C.’s major choirs and orchestras. Mr. Kaario is a past member and soloist with the Vancouver Chamber Choir and past principal tenor and soloist with the Vancouver Cantata Singers.

Capilano University Singers
Capilano University Singers is a national and international prize-winning ensemble. The choir is part of the Diploma of Music Program and most of the singers are voice majors. In 2002 and 2005 the choir performed in a number of European cities, singing in many cathedrals and other venues associated with the great composers of the past. The choir was a participant in both the 1992 and 1994 International Choral Kathaumixw festival and was a prize-winner in the contemporary category both years. Capilano University Singers was a national finalist in the prestigious Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) Radio Choral Competition in 1992, 1996 and 2002, and won second place in 2000 in the mixed choir category, competing with many university choirs across the country.
