From the Podium – 2011-12 Season
Dear Music Lovers,
As Music Director of the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our 2011-12 season. We truly believe that this year’s musical offerings include something for everyone. You’ll hear familiar and much-loved works by Beethoven, Brahms and Rachmaninoff along with Mussorgsky’s thrilling Pictures at an Exhibition. We present two performances of Mozart’s monumental Mass in C Minor in collaboration with the Capilano University Singers and conductor Lars Kaario. As always, the orchestra is joined by a variety of wonderful professional soloists including the extraordinarily talented winner of last year’s Concerto Competition, Esther Hwang, who will perform the much loved Brahms Violin Concerto.
I sincerely look forward to another season of music making with this wonderful group of fine and dedicated musicians, and to working with our new Assistant Conductor Nicholas Urquahart whose support and musical contributions will be very much appreciated.
And to you, our loyal audience – I am very excited to welcome you back! Please share the news of our VPO season with your family, friends and neighbors. Everyone is welcome to come join us and experience great music performed by a full symphony orchestra.
Yours truly,
Jin Zhang, Music Director
Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra
